Memorial to Mark Bookman at 2023 GSRC

The 2023 GSRC was a great success.  Thank you to all who presented and participated.  It was a wonderful exchange of research and ideas on narratives of the past in East Asian Studies and how they have shaped the contemporary.  Thank you to conference organizers:  Suh-won Sarah Chang, Suyoung Kim, Alice Liu, Ryodai Matsui (Peter), Nicholas Purgett, Maria Puzyreva, Doris Yixuan Tang, Julian Tash and Jay Zhang.

A touching memorial to GSRC founder, Dr. Mark Bookman, was given by current PhD candidate and friend of Mark, Patrick Carland.  Mark started the GSRC in 2015 so that students in East Asian studies at Penn could collaborate on their research.  The idea quickly grew to include students at other universities, culminating in the first GSRC conference in 2017.  He passed away suddenly on December 16, 2022 in Japan.

For those that could not attend this year's GSRC in person, please view the tribute to Mark here.
