C. Pierce Salguero
Nov 8, 2016 - at - | McNeil Building, Room 103

While often overlooked by historians of Chinese science and medicine, Buddhism shaped a major portion of the medical landscape of medieval China. From talismans and mantras to pharmaceuticals and healing meditations, Dr Salguero will provide an overview of the Buddhist medical ideas and practices that circulated in that era, as well as their lasting influences on mainstream Chinese medicine. Dr Salguero is author of Translating Buddhist Medicine in Medieval China, published by UPenn Press in 2014, and Associate Professor at the Abington College of Penn State University.
